The city of Siena was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is one of the unmissable destinations of Italy: a city with a medieval history, beautiful architecture and a lively culture. On this shared tour you will walk and enjoy the main attractions of the city.

Description

Discover the treasures of one of the most beautiful cities in the world with a local guide and immerse yourself in its art, culture and traditions. With a small group you will explore the best that Siena has to offer, by walking through the ancient streets of the city.
If you select the option with the Duomo included, you will also visit its interior.

The Tour will start in the heart of the city, Piazza del Campo, the Sienese political nerve centre, where you will learn about the history of the majestic Palazzo Pubblico, today the city hall and seat of the Civic Museum. In this square you will discover the tradition of the Palio, the horse race that takes place twice a year since the Middle Ages. Here you will also admire Fonte Gaia (fountain) and discover the history of the mysterious “bottini”, an underground medieval aqueduct excavated in the sandstone. You will hear funny anecdotes about the spasmodic search of the Sienese of the much-sought river called “Diana”.
Afterwards you will walk the ancient street Banchi di Sopra, a small part of the ancient Via Francigena, the pilgrim’s road that starts in North Europe and finishes in Rome. Along this street the guide will tell you about important Sienese families and will show you their palaces: Palazzo Tolomei, one of the oldest private buildings of the city and Palazzo Salimbeni, seat of the oldest public bank of Europe.
The tour will continue towards the Basilica of San Domenico which houses the relics of Saint Catherine of Siena, then you will discover the Sanctuary of St. Catherine, where she used to live with her family.
Afterwards you will pass by the Baptistery and the stunning Siena Cathedral.

I graduated in Biology and then specialized in Marine Biology, I studied around Italy in important universities and research laboratories. After the Master in Environmental Legislation I returned to my beloved Siena, where my family and my dear friends were waiting for me.
I am from the Shell neighborhood (Contrada del Nicchio), you will discover in our company that the “Contrada life” in Siena is very important since childhood, and it is one of the things that makes this city unique!
Since I was a child I had a passion for teaching, over the years I worked in schools as an educator and so I developed interesting projects in the field of environmental education. My passion for playing with children will never end and in fact I am also a swimming instructor, specialized for people with psychophysical problems.

My name is Ludovica and I was born in Rome, where I attended the German school. After the diploma I studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin at the faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature. For many years I lived around Europe, where I worked and continued to study languages. My passions are art and foreign languages, so I decided to move back to my beautiful country to combine them in my job as a tour guide. I moved to Siena, where I studied to become a licensed Tour Guide in Italian, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
Siena is an enchanting city, a treasure chest that holds many artistic and cultural beauties and my job is to transmit my love for Siena and the many villages in the Province to those who come to visit it.
